Student Dress Code
Proper attire must also be worn by all students to foster a safe environment for learning. To ensure that students observe basic rules of personal hygiene and dress in a manner that would not disrupt the educational process, the following dress code shall apply:
• Uniforms are mandatory and proper attire will be strictly enforced.
• If your son or daughter is inclined to be feel cold he/she is permitted to wear a white or dark blue long sleeve solid t’shirt or turtle neck, under their school uniform shirt. During inclement weather students are permitted to wear heavy coats, rain coats, and other forms of outer wear. However, these items are to be removed upon arrival at school.
• Students shall not wear revealing attire that would divert attention from the learning process, or lead to a student being insulted or approached indecently.
• Caps, hats and head scarves are not to be worn in the school building unless for documented religious reasons.
• Students are not to wear sunglasses in the school building unless a doctor’s permit is on file.
• Clothing, jewelry, buttons, patches or any other item with words, phrases, symbols, pictures, or signs which use indecent, profane, swear, or suggestive words, or doing drugs or alcohol related activities are not to be worn.
• For the health and safety of all students, ornate and/or expensive jewelry, such as medallions, large earrings and gold chains are not to be worn by students while at school. Such items place students in danger of being injured, assaulted and/or robbed.
• Hair must be neatly groomed. No extreme/distracting hair styles or colors are permitted. Gentlemen having long hair must have it tied back in a pony tail of some kind and away from their face.
• Minor Uniform Infractions include but are not limited to male shirts not tucked in, sagging pants, no tie, improper wearing of tie, etc. Students will be issued detentions for these offenses.
• Major Uniform:
Please be advised that pants must be worn at the waist and be of the appropriate size and proportion for the individual, BAGGY, TIGHT FITTING, CROP PANTS, SHORTS, SKIRTS, etc. are not permitted. Students who refuse to comply with the school uniform policy and the proper wearing of their uniform will be subject to suspension for willful disobedience.
During the school year the school will have shirts and ties available at the school store for purchase on a limited basis. Should your child not have the appropriate uniform components he/she will be permitted to purchase these items at the school store between 8:00 AM and 8:15 AM. Please be advised the school store will have only a limited number shirts, sizes and ties. Items will be available on a first come first serve basis. Your son/daughter may place an order for uniforms with the school store. All orders must be paid for at the time the order is made. Payment can be in the form of cash, money order or check made out to International High school of New Orleans. Students who refuse to remove items such as unauthorized outerwear will be issued a suspension for willful disobedience.
