Roles and Responsibilities Within the IB Programme

Section 5.01       Role of the IB Coordinator

 

The role of the IB Coordinator within the school community is as follows:

 

        Guide the school community, ensuring that administration, teachers, legal guardians and candidates are informed about the IB Mission, IB Learner Profile, and IB curriculum and assessments

        Determine and oversee admissions into the Diploma Programme and IB Course Option

        Work with teachers to ensure understanding of program / subject requirements

        Conduct Diploma Programme team meetings and collaboration sessions

        Schedule Diploma Programme courses, create and manage the IB School Calendar, ensure concurrency of learning

        Support and develop the Diploma Programme core (Theory of Knowledge course integration, Extended Essay process, CAS project)

        Articulate and help facilitate curriculum expectations leading to the Diploma Programme

        General administrative responsibilities, including database management, candidate registration and coursework management, IB examination coordination, etc.

        Design and manage an assessment result, contact information and higher education experience database

        Administer the Diploma Programme budget and teacher professional development

        Participate and contribute to the Louisiana Association of IB Schools Organization, facilitating network and support opportunities for DP teachers

        Organize and complete the five-year programme evaluation

        Facilitate and assist student progression to further education

        Ensure programme implementation and development

        Serve as part of the school’s pedagogical leadership team

        Ensure access to and promote the use of the online curriculum centre and IB Information System

 

Section 5.02       IB Teacher Responsibilities

 

The roles of the IB Diploma Programme Teachers within the school community are as follows:

 

●        Follow the IB guidelines as outlined in the subject guide and use the occ frequently.

●        Teach the state grade-level benchmarks of the subject area in addition to IB requirements, if the course so requires.

●        Provide students with subject curriculum, command terms, assessment criteria for Internal Assessment, and old IB exams

●        Keep in contact with students, parents, counselors and the IB Coordinator about students’ progress.  Contact (via e-mail, in person or on the phone) with parents of students with Ds or Fs before the end of every six-week marking period.

●        Incorporate the core when planning for individual curriculum (CAS, EE, TOK, IB Learner Profile).

●        Be mindful of the DP Team when planning and assigning homework.

●        Be present for and full participate in DP team meetings.

●        Maintain the calendar and be open to resolving assessment/scheduling conflicts.

●        Be familiar with and enforce the Academic Honesty and Integrity Policy.

●        Support the program and encourage students to persevere.

●        Infuse international-mindedness into the program by developing creative, applicable lessons that involve real-world issues.

●        Integrate Theory of Knowledge into subject courses.

●        Communicate weekly and professionally with the IB Coordinator to ensure successful implementation of the DP.

●        Read the Coordinators Notes when distributed and track curriculum review process for subject area.

●        Participate in self-study and provide documentation for the Program Evaluation.

Section 5.03       EE Coordinator Responsibilities

 

The role of the Extended Essay Coordinator within the school community is as follows:

 

●        Read and enforce the Extended Essay Guide from the OCC

●        Collaborate with IB Coordinator to develop and improve program structure

o    Calendar, scheduling, reporting, updating and revising IHSNO EE Manual

●        Manage the EE Budget and assist in identifying resource needs

●        Educate staff, students and parents about EE process, turnitin, and EE assessment criteria

●        Assist supervisors and/or students in essay topic development

●        Facilitate JSTOR / EBSCOHost training for DP students

●        Conduct check-ins with supervisors and/or students to monitor progress and deadline adherence

●        Review all supervisor reports to guarantee authenticity of all essays

●        Collect and organize marks, predicted grades and hours spent with supervisees

●        Report EE predicted grades in IBIS and to IB Coordinator, upload final EEs in eCoursework portal

 

Section 5.04       CAS Coordinator Responsibilities

 

The role of the CAS Coordinator within the school community is as follows:

 

●        Read and enforce the CAS Guide from the OCC

●        Collaborate with the IB Coordinator to develop or improve program structure

o    Calendar, scheduling, reporting, updating and revising the IHSNO CAS Manual

●        Manage the CAS budget and assist in identifying resource needs

●        Update current and input new students in ManageBac platform

●        Educate staff, students and parents about CAS

●        Assist students in project topic development

●        Conduct frequent check-ins with students to monitor progress using ManageBac and face-to-face meetings

●        Report pass/fail grades for CAS in IBIS and to IB Coordinator

 

Section 5.05       9th and 10th Grade Teacher Responsibilities

 

The roles of the IHSNO 9th and 10th grade teachers within the school community are as follows:

 

●        Collaborate with subject area teachers to ensure vertical alignment of content and skills needed for the DP course(s).

●        Use Diploma Programme command terms from the DP course to follow.

●        Use Diploma Programme assessment criteria and rubrics (whether the same or simplified) from the DP course to follow.

●        Discuss options for enrollment in the IB Diploma Programme regularly with 9th and 10th grade stdeunts.

●        Recommend 9th and 10th grade students for IB Course Option or IB Diploma as necessary.

●        Use the occ to read IB curriculum publications, such as corresponding DP subject guide or MYP subject area (group) guides.
