Additional Information for Prospective Families
Dear Prospective IHSNO Family,
We are so excited that you are considering the International High School of New Orleans! Here is some information that may help in your decision-making process.
Our school has been around now for 11 years - we were founded as a continuation of the International education that the International School of Louisiana provides to students in K-8 and strive to meet the international mindedness each day of exposing our students to new cultures.
For honors and dual enrollment courses - we offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, which is currently only offered by two schools in Orleans Parish. International Baccalaureate is an internationally recognized program in which students take advanced coursework and participate in extracurricular activities and research. Traditionally, the Diploma Programme is delivered to students in 11th and 12th grades. Next year, we are extending those IB opportunities to 9th and 10th grades through what is called the Middle Years Programme, a 6-10 curriculum framework that prepares students for the full Diploma. More information on the IB Programme can be found here; if you would like more information on IB@IHSNO specifically, please contact our IB Coordinator, Mr. Cody Bourque at cody.bourque@ihsnola.org.
Our student spotlight this year was Dennis Barnes, who attained record scholarship offers. However, we consistently have students hitting the million, two million, and five million scholarship marks. Our counseling department works tirelessly with our senior class each year to ensure that students have a wide variety of opportunities available when they graduate from IHSNO.
Our School Performance Score and letter grade can be found on the Louisiana Department of Education website. While we're continuously working to improve our score, we also ask families to keep in mind that we serve a very diverse group of students. We have a number of International students with varied school experiences - we strive to offer a global learning environment and our diverse student body is an indicator of such.
We have an Athletics department consisting of several active teams. We offer both boys' and girls' basketball, soccer, and track/cross country, in addition to cheerleading and dance teams. We also have a heavy emphasis on extracurricular activities here at IHSNO - many of our clubs are embedded into the school day, with additional offerings after school. Our list of clubs changes yearly, which is why you won't find it posted on our website. However, the benefit to that is that students are a driving factor in our club planning - if your child has an idea for a club, we're always open to expanding those offerings!
Currently, our seniors participate in a myriad of in-town field trips and we do not offer an overnight trip to senior students - however, we know that is one of our Senior Coordinator's top goals for the class of 2025 and beyond. We value those opportunities to travel as a student cohort in service of our mission to graduate Global Citizens.
Please let us know if you have additional questions or if there is anyone else we can connect you with. Again, we want to reiterate our appreciation for your interest in our school community - we are thankful that you've given us this opportunity to provide you with additional information and will update our website soon.
with gratitude,
International High School of New Orleans
